Emily Ricketts

We met Emily when she was 14 years old. Our son David was serving at an orphanage in Mexico and called to ask if we would invite her over to ride, explaining he met her in Mexico and she really likes horses. We didn't know Emily's age but when she got here she was taken to Middle Grove and thrown up on Grace our big TB mare. Emily surprised us with how talented, balanced and fearless she was. Karin was so pleased she told her she could come anytime to ride. That's when Emily said, "I can't drive, I'm only 14 years old." Emily was then told we would bring her a horse each summer and come get it when the pasture was gone.

The first horse we sent was a hard one, we called her Big Sally. Sally was a big16.3 hand Percheron x Morgan mare 4 years old and not made to work or mind. She was barn sour, not aware of her feet and would get in ones personal space. At the end of the summer Big Sally was going well under saddle for Emily, they spent hours riding the country side.

Emily was sent Sophie, a 3 year old Tennessee Walker and Knight the Reinhard's pony.

Emily was sent Anni a 3 year old Paint.

Emily was then asked to train Ciera to drive before the 2011 IL Horse Fair and had only 2 months to accomplish this task.

Then last summer Emily was sent Jewel. Emily and Jewel have a special connection, they read each other's minds. Of all the horses Emily has trained for Horsemeister, Jewel was by far the favorite.
